BROWARD COUNTY 2018

Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) & Broward Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC) Human Trafficking Screening Tool Statistics:

March 2015 to Feb. 24, 2017:

  • 788 human trafficking screening tool assessments were completed: 274 males (35%) & 514 females (65%)
  • 305 (39%) were forwarded to the hotline
  • 96 of those cases (31%) were accepted as human trafficking, or possible human trafficking, cases
  • During clinical review of JAT Assessments, JAC screening staff (or JAT Assessors) and JAC screening supervisors are provided with corrective feedback when a call to the Abuse hotline needs to be completed and the HTST edited accordingly.  DJJ Human Trafficking Director also sends monthly feedback (positive and corrective) regarding HTSTs that are completed.
  • The most common errors made when completing HTST  is indicating youth as “Likely Not” a victim of HTST when should actually be indicated at least as “Unsure” (which necessitates that a call placed to the Abuse hotline), neglecting to ask guardian the HTST questions and accepting what the youth reports without verifying, or not completing HTST if not prompted after PACT prescreen even though HT risk factors are evident within collateral information other than PACT.
